LIP TREATMENT
what is LIP TREATMENT
Lip treatment may be used to address the contour, volume, and symmetry of the lips. It may also be used to treat fine vertical lines that can appear around the mouth over time, sometimes referred to as perioral lines.
The procedure may be considered for both women and men. The upper lip, lower lip, or both may be treated within a single session, depending on the individual’s concerns and goals. Treatment is tailored to each patient, with the most appropriate products and techniques discussed and agreed upon during the consultation process.
about the procedure
Following a detailed consultation and assessment, Dr Mooney will discuss all available treatment options, along with a thorough explanation of the associated risks and potential complications.
The lips are sensitive and a topical or local anaesthetic may be applied prior to treatment to ensure comfort. Results immediately following the procedure may not reflect the final outcome, as temporary swelling in the treated area is expected. Patients are advised to avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours post-procedure.
Patients with immune disorders or a history of keloid scarring (thickened scars) should exercise caution and consult their treating doctor before considering any injectable treatment.
As with any invasive procedure, lip treatment carries potential risks. These may include, but are not limited to:
- Asymmetry or uneven results
- Pain, swelling, or bruising at the treatment site
- Infection
- Dissatisfaction with the aesthetic outcome
- In rare cases, vascular occlusion (obstruction of a blood vessel), which requires prompt medical attention
Dr Mooney and his team will conduct a thorough consent process prior to any procedure. Patients are encouraged to seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner before proceeding.
If you have any concerns following your treatment, please contact our clinic or our after-hours number immediately.
who is suitable?
Suitable candidates are adults aged 18 years and over in good general health with concerns relating to lip volume or definition. Suitability is assessed individually at consultation. Treatment may not be appropriate for patients who are pregnant, breastfeeding, have active infections around the mouth, or certain other medical conditions.
RECOVERY
Recovery from lip treatment is generally brief. The following aftercare guidelines are typically advised:
• Avoid exercise for 24–48 hours following treatment
• Avoid intense heat (saunas, sunbathing) or extreme cold for the first few days
• Avoid aspirin or blood-thinning substances as these may increase bruising risk
• Redness, swelling, and bruising typically resolve within a few days to one week
• Most patients return to normal daily activities relatively quickly
Your treating doctor will provide specific post operative instructions tailored to your individual circumstances prior to your procedure.
RISKS
As with any invasive procedure, lip treatment carries potential risks. These may include, but are not limited to:
• Pain, redness, or tenderness at the treatment site
• Bruising or swelling
• Infection
• Asymmetry or uneven results
• Lumpiness or irregularity
• Dissatisfaction with aesthetic outcome
• In rare cases, vascular occlusion requiring prompt medical attention
Your treating doctor will discuss the risks, benefits, alternatives, and recovery process with you in detail during your consultation.
