Submental Liposculpture
WHAT IS SUBMENTAL LIPOSCULPTURE?
Submental liposculpture is a surgical procedure designed to reduce a localised fat deposit beneath the chin to improve neck and jawline contour. It is generally most suitable for patients who are within a healthy weight range but have persistent fullness under the chin that does not respond to diet or exercise. It is not intended as a weight-loss procedure.
During consultation, Dr Mooney undertakes a comprehensive medical history and clinical assessment. Facial proportions, age, gender, ethnicity and any previous treatments are carefully considered. High-resolution imaging may be used to assist with procedural planning and discussion of realistic outcomes.
Removal of submental fat may refine the chin and jawline profile and, in selected patients, contribute to a more defined and youthful appearance. Individual results vary.
THE PROCEDURE
Submental liposculpture may be performed in a clinic or hospital setting, either as a standalone procedure or in combination with other facial surgeries, depending on individual circumstances. Following appropriate assessment and consent, local anaesthetic with adrenaline is used to assist with comfort and to minimise bleeding and bruising.
A small incision is typically made beneath the chin to allow access to the submental fat. In some cases, additional access points near the ears may be required. Fat is carefully removed to improve contour while preserving surrounding structures.
The procedure usually takes around one hour. Temporary swelling and bruising are common and generally resolve over several days.
Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks. Before proceeding, you should seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner.
BEFORE & AFTER
Post-procedure images are typically taken between 3 to 12 months following treatment.

Recovery
Recovery
Recovery times can vary between individuals. Generally:
A compression garment may be worn under the chin immediately after the procedure
Discomfort is usually manageable with prescribed or recommended pain relief
Mild swelling and bruising are common in the early post-procedure period
Most patients are able to return to normal daily activities within several days
Strenuous exercise should be avoided for approximately one to two weeks
- Final contour results may take several weeks to months as swelling fully resolves
Following post-operative instructions carefully is essential for optimal healing.

- Infection
- Bleeding or haematoma
- Scarring
